Hello Mark,
we got it!
To describe the failure exactly:
- the failure may be happen with some ASUS boards and external
RAID-System (external RAID-controller, not the on board controller)
- if I shut down the computer with shut down / power off its working perfect.
- if I want to hibernate the computer by Vista default I can click on
brown "OFF" button in Start-Menu
- normaly the computer has to hibernate: write everything in cache on hard
disk
and switch to hibernate state. If I then press power-button on machine, it
has to
wake up
- in failure it writes and writes and writes.. an switch to hibernate before
ready writing cache dates.
- the early appending of HDD brings this error message (see above)
What we done...
- we looked for new Microsoft ACPI driver (system tells we have newest)
- we looked for new Microsoft disk.sys and atapi.sys (system tells we have
newest
one, loaded with SP1, every hotfix wich describes this error is included in
VISTA SP1 )
- we looked for new ASUS ATK ACPI driver (system tells we have newest)
- we looked for new ASUS Chipset driver (system tells we have newest)
- we looked for new ADAPTEC driver (system tells we have newest)
- we looked for BIOS updates, we had latest 03/10/2008 (but this was the
problem!)
Where does the problem come from?
ASUS sold a board with BETA-BIOS!
In the most PCs it should work, only special constructions (RAID) will make
some terrible effects in hiberanting.
Solution for Experts
- someone of
WWW.OLJOCOM.DE told us: attention, this is a BETA BIOS!
(many thanks to OLJOCOM-team)
- so we made a BIOS downgrade to the latest stable version,
downloaded from original ASUS site:
http://support.asus.com/download/dow...n-us&model=P5B
- the BIOS shows now 09/25/07
- it works!
Solution for Beginners
If You dont like downgrade Your BIOS, YOU should disable all
energy and hibernate features, at 1st HDD. So the PC should not be
able to hibernate itself, if You leave it alone.
Also You can change Your Start Menu Power Button to "shut down",
to be sure not to hibernate the PC, if You want it to down/power off.
Normaly this button is Vista default = "hibernate" on click.
Look here

(if You are right, the button changes the color to red)
Have a nice day
