I use a non-English version so I'll try to translate

1) Start->Controlpanel->Administration->Services

2) Right-click on SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) and chose start.

3) Pop-up window:

Windows could not start SQL Server (SQLEXPRESS) on Local computer. Further
information can be found in the system log. Contact you service provider if
this is a non-Microsoft service and refer to the service specific error code.
3417.

If I change the "Log on as:" from

Built-in account: Network Service

to

Built-in account: Local System

Then the service starts without any problem. But I don't know if this is a
good enough solution??

Peter:

You seem to have some experience with this. I have looked around on the
internet to try and find an answer for the same problem. I have checked to
make sure the master files are not compressed. I have tried to restart the
service through the services page. I have also changed the user from Network
Services to Local System Account. So far none has worked. Besides having
SQLExpress Installed, I also have SQL Developers Edition 2005 and SQL 2000
installed. I have also tried to update SQL Developers Edition 2005 update
(Update for SQL Server 2005 (KB 932557)) and I am getting the same error.
Below are both my summary log. If you like, I can also post the hot fix log.
Any help that you can give would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,

Robs
