I had this issue. I went to
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/dow...displaylang=en and
completed the validation and I could run windowsupdate fine again. This
should work no matter if you actually have genuine windows or not.

I tried that and it still doesn't work. I have GENUINE Windows XP Pro SP2
