Sorry for the long post. I have a problem trying to reach the microsoft
update site (not windows update) I am not trying to download updates
1) I try to reach this site: 'http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com'
Via Internet explorer ,tools, windows update, it informs me windows is
up to date
If I click on **get updates for more products **this redirects to
'Microsoft Update' (http://tinyurl.com/2csl29)

the Welcome to Microsoft update page.

if I continue and accept the license agreement it eventually redirects
to an error page'Microsoft Update' (http://tinyurl.com/yqnnqn)

2) This page contains this :
------------------------
\"The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you
are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the
problem.
For self-help options:
Frequently Asked Questions
Find Solutions
Windows Update Newsgroup
For assisted support options:
Microsoft Online Assisted Support (no-cost for Windows Update issues)
Read more about steps you can take to resolve this problem (error
number 0x80070002) yourself.\"----On the upper right corner, I have this
string present: [Error number: 0x80070002]I follow the steps, which asks
me to stop the
(1)Windows update service,
(2)remove the content of C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\Download and
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution\DataStore and then
(3) Restart the Windows update service.

None of the solutions has any effect. I think the problem may have
started when I accepted the microsoft beta update. The windows update
log also provides a clue

I have googled this error - and the only other way is to reinstall
Vista. I raised a support incident with Microsoft but they simply keep
suggested variations of stopping WUS and renaming software distribution
folder and have sent a winupdatesfix file which reregisters various
update components.

I have cleaned up registry and fixed any errors. If any one has any
suggestions I'd be gratefull

When I go there I don't see a button or link marked " get updates for more products ".

I see two buttons - 'Express' and 'Custom'.

You are confused. Re-phrase your problem.

Ok, first I am using a newsreader to access this newsgroup. It is text only
so I can't see your attached file - it has been stripped off.
The first time I went to the link in your post I was using XP. That's why I
saw buttons marked ' Express ' and ' Custom '.
This time I am using Vista and I still can't see any link for ' get updates for more products'.
There are two main stripes ' Windows is up to date' and ' There are Windows Ultimate
Extras available for download'.
Sorry, I can't reproduce the effect you are seeing.
Maybe someone else can help you.
..

go into Windows Safe Mode and delete this folder
C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution and restart Windows in Normal Mode, then
rerun Windows Update from Control Panel. All should be fine from here
on.
