0x8007007B on several updates

Hi all,

I'm trying to update an english W2K professional installation via Windows
update and keep getting the above mentioned error on currently 5 patches:

Windows2000-KB908523-x86-ENU
KB905915-IE6SP1
Windows2000-KB912919-x86-ENU
kb904368
Windows2000-KB896424-x86-ENU

All the updates seem to stop when attemping to copy an updated file into the
system32 directory or a subdirectory in there. The files are gdi32.dll,
mup.sys, fastfat.sys and danim.dll

I checked the newsgroup and found some suggestions concerning the error,
like disabling virus scanners and firewalls or renaming the
softwaredistribution or catroot folder but none of those helped. It seems to
me that those solutions apply to not being ablet to access the update site or
download from it.

For me the downloads run fine, but the installations stop with the error on
copying the various system files to the system32 directory.

I'm logged into the local administrator-account and checked the file
permissions for the account - everything seems to be OK here.

Then I tried to install from within the SoftwareDistribution\download folder
but I keep getting the same problems.I checked the log files but tha didn't
help either.

If helpful, I can post a logfile here.

When trying to rename one of the files when the error message appears in the
destination directory before trying to resume the update even the renaming
works, but the installer doesn't seem to be able to put the new file into the
directory.

Does anyone have an idea?
