Cheers Torgeir, all solved for me at least :-) The reverse tracking idea
through the event log system area put me on the path. Essestially the BITS
service was failing to start because a dependacy service it relied on being
System Event Notification was disabled, why ? I have no idea but hey
switching it from disable to automatic solved all my windows update problems
and the 0x8007041D error is fixed.
People experienceing this error should forget the antivirus thread fro M$
its a red herring, start looking at at the Background Intellegent Transfer
Service and its dependant services.
Good Luck all, cheers to Torgier /salute
