0x80070424 Error

Have searched days for an answer to the above error and finally find that
there are loads of people getting them. From 2004 to date 6/11/06 so
Microsoft are you doing something about it or what? I now cannot update my
windows security alert. It says it is off when it is on and the firewall is
off but it says it is on - weird or what? Can anyone help.

The automatic update Service seems not to be installed, go to start than Run type inf press enter than right klick AU.inf if found and choose install follow further text in screen, it might be you need the windows cd to finish the process after finishing restart your PC.

Liz,

There is no official presence of MS in this newsgroup, only people
volunteering to help. So your complaint to MS is most likely not going
to be seen.
When was the last time you scanned this system for the presence of
malware ? Suggest you read this tutorial

and then have the system scanned at the Kaspersky Online Scanner -
http://www.kaspersky.com/virusscanner

The firewall being disabled plus having Automatic Update service not
running PLUS "my windows security alert" are not reassuring signs.

If malware is detected on the system, seek assistance at one of these
reputable forums after first reading the guidelines of the forum of your
choice - ( in alphabetical order )
