I have tried the trick with the Wordpad thing. Nothing happens when I
doubleclick it.
I am getting this Website dialer all the time and my startpage is corrupted,

Kawan,
I was having the same lack of success with the Word Pad solution. This is
what I just sent to Microsoft's Help and Support:
Actually, shortly after I sent the request for help, I was able to rectify
the problem. I utilized a method of making a Batch file that was created with
the help from one of the Microsoft News Groups. Initially, they had me create
a WordPad file called IEreg.bat and copy a whole host of commands into it
and save it to my desk top. Double click it and it would alleviate the
problem caused by error code 0x80070424. Well, what I didn't realize at first
was that when I hi-lited all the commands and pasted them in the WordPad
file, the commands were copied in the file accross the page and not in
succession like I hi-lited them. So I re-copied the files, opened the
existing batch file, deleted the existing commands and pasted the new ones
which in turn were formatted as they should be in a line item fashion. I
double clicked the file and voila, no more Windows Update issues. Thank you
for response and help in this matter.

Make sure that these commands are pasted one-under-the-other. It really did
work. I was gonna blow away XP and reformat the Hard drive until then.

Using Notepad worked for me. Just remember to only include the referenced
commands, and that they are on one line each.

I am sorry that you are hitting this issue.

Would you please expand on what is actually wrong with your system at this
point?
Were you scanning for updates?
Were you just trying to reach the Windows Update site?
Were you using Automatic Updates, and noticed these errors in the log?

Please reply back with which operating system, the service pack, and the
answers, and I'll be more than happy to assist.

Sincerely,

Pat Walters [MSFT]

Use Notepad instead of Wordpad to copy the text. Notepad keeps the correct
format so teh bat file will run.
