0x80070424 Windows Update Problem

Hello, I'm having some touble using the windows update function: it returns
this error: 0x80070424. I have read some other posts on this topic and tried
a couple fixes but I'm not sure that I have the same problem. Automatic
update is not deleted from my computer, but manually I am unable to get
updates. Also Norton Programs have been unable to work, Auto-Protect having
been disabled and the Core LC for Antivirus amoung other things keeps
disappearing if it was installed at all Causing norton Systemworks and
antivirus to fail.... Norton,Microsoft very unhelpful...basically said
reinstall and your on your own. Can anyone Help?????
