0x80070643 Error Help

I've got about ten updates that I can't install because of the 0x80070643
error.

I've seen the links to the article about the ose.exe error, but mine is
defnitely set on manual, which leaves the possibility that the file is
corrupted. Here's the problem--I'm at school without any of my installation
disks, so I can't copy the original file off the CD and onto my computer. Is
there any other way to get a clean copy of this file, and is it linked to the
specific disk that I originally used to install Office/Windows/whatever seems
to be causing this problem?

In my case such an error appeared for old versions of update patches. Simply
I didn't try to install them any more

I've been hiding them, but they're starting to pile up and I don't want to
end up with a million patches that I should have but can't install.

Any ideas, anyone?

Also, if I try to rename the "catroot2" folder, which has been suggested, it
tells me I don't have the ability to rename it...is there any way I can fix
this? I'm definitely the administrator, because I'm the only user on my
computer.

Are you stopping CryptSvc first?

Process Explorer shows that that process' svchost.exe has edb.log
and tmp.edb open under that folder. I think that I have seen Torgeir
recommend stopping that service before trying that repair suggestion
too.

I stopped Cryptsvc. It allowed me to rename the catroot2 folder, but
unfortunately that didn't solve my original problem--my updates still fail to
install.

Thanks for the feedback. That is the only issue I was trying to help with.


Hint: for this particular code try searching for articles about the decimal
equivalent of the last half of the code: 1603

E.g. try searching for posts in here which contain both that number and MVP

I still need help with this problem, if anyone's got any ideas. I noticed
yesterday that an update was released for Microsoft Antispyware or whatever
it's called (Windows Defender, maybe?), and it installed just fine. All of
the updates that don't install are for Office 2003 or the .net framework (I
won't lie--I have no idea what that is).

Maybe that helps someone think of a solution? Again, I'm here at school
without my Office discs, so reinstalling isn't an option, or I would have
done that already.

I also had this problem but Robin Walker [MVP] Suggested that the problem
could be because of the use of a "Registry Cleaner". I used one called Reg
Cure so I restored the backup of the registry that it created when I first
ran it and this solved the problem.

Thanks Stephen. This now makes sense. I also use the same registry cleaner
RegCure and since I have run it, I have been having some strange problems
including all of my office 2003 updates failing. I also experienced all of my
windows setting being changed, e.g. Windows theme, styles etc.
I am about to uninstall RegCure and try and restore my registry settings.

You do not happen to know which registry entries RegCure removed which
caused the problem. The reason I ask is that I have been running RegCure for
about a month now and have installed some new software on my PC which will be
lost if I restore my registry to a month ago.
