See if this applies to the issue:
Error message when you try to install some of the Office 2003 or Office
XP updates: "No valid sequence could be found for the set of patches"
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/913754
In XP, an installation log file should be located in your User Account
Temp subfolder.
Click Start > Run > type in %temp%
Click OK or press Enter.
See if there's a OHotfix subfolder present that contains a
OHotfix(xxxxx)_Msi.log ( the x's will NOT be there; it will be something
like OHotfix(00001)_Msi.log. NOTE that there is another file with that
name but it ends in .log, NOT _Msi.log )
If not, then enable Windows Installer logging:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/223300
Run an Office update again and see if
MSI (s): PATCH SEQUENCER ERROR
is present in the _Msi.log. If it is, then follow the steps in the MSKB.
