0x800706BE when trying to update - Windows XP

I am getting failures on patches when trying to update Windows XP. WU
reports a 0x800706BE error. The WindowsUpdate log file on my machine lists
the following message (repeatedly):

WARNING: WU client fails to call back to install call
{4973AF12-3745-47BF-9342-817985CD101A} with error 0x800706ba

Any similar experiences or feedback would be great. Thanks.
