Hi gang,

I have encountered a challenge when connecting to Windows Update. I get the
0x80072EE7 error.

I've tried the following:

- Checked the Hosts file for any static IP addresses - nothing
- I tried the guided help - no luck
- Internet connectivity is fine
- Firewall has been eliminated as a problem
- I had used a software accelerator (ashampoo); however I removed it and
then reset the Internet connection settings using DRTCP
- Windows Update and Microsoft Update have been added to the Trusted Sites
list
- I removed the proxy server entry from the WinHTTP proxy configuration
- Background Intelligent Transfer Service is running properly
- Event Log is running properly
- Cryptographic Service is fine
- cache is cleared
- The system has been restarted
- Easycleaner and Xtech show nothing unusual in the startups - programs or
services

As you can see, I have exhausted the MS suggestions. I really hope someone
can help!

What was the name of the proxy server that was removed ?
Have you disabled the Trend firewall, enabled the native XP firewall,
and then done a manual visit to Windows Update ?
What is Xtech ?
Can you Stop the Automatic Updates service via the Services console and
then restart it [Start > Run > type in services.msc > Click OK] ?

Try another manual visit to Windows Update, when the error occurs close
Internet Explorer, and then go to Start > Run > type in

%windir%\windowsupdate.log
Click OK or press Enter

Please post the last 30 or so lines of the log in your reply, Gent.

Gent - try this
download fixwareout -
http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/file...Fixwareout.exe
Note: You will need to run this tool while having an Internet Connection.
The tool will download other files while running.
Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run
fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an
additional files from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it,
but allow it instead.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may
take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt).

After that try the microsoft update - it worked great for me.
If you think about it, let me know.
