0x80072EE7 message, I can't download any windows updates

Every time I go to download a windows update I get this error message. When I
try to fix the problem using the instrucutions they give you it doesn't
work. This has been a problem for some time now and now I can not download
the required Zune update I need.

I have the same problem and I need a solution too since I am trying to
install Window Live and it failed everytime I try to.

If you have any security software disable it and check the problem.

If the update issue is still not solved. follow this :

Just copy the text and paste in the notepad and save it as update.bat on the
desktop.

Then run the update.bat from the desktop.

This will rename the SoftwareDistribution and the CatRoot2 folder and
register all the dll files and this will fix the problem. Once the files
completes try to perform updates.

Let me know if your problem is solved. We solve all the update problem using
this update file.

Thanks for the recommendation. Unfortunately it did not work. The only thing
I see wrong with it is that it says my proxy settings fail everytime I run
the update. Thanks again for the advice though.

I'm having the same trouble for a couple of weeks. Never had this problem
before and no changes have been made afaik. I tried the solutions mentioned,
turning off my firewall, nothing helps, same error message. I get the
message to wait while it checks using activex, then the above error message
appears. I tried editing the HOSTS file, everything it says, no help.
Anybody??? Thanks.

Note: You will need to run this tool while having an Internet Connection.
The tool will download other files while running.
Save it to your desktop and run it. Click Next, then Install, make sure "Run
fixit" is checked and click Finish.
The fix will begin; follow the prompts.
If your firewall gives an alert, (because this tool will download an
additional files from the internet), please don't let your firewall block it,
but allow it instead.
You will be asked to reboot your computer; please do so. Your system may
take longer than usual to load; this is normal.
Once the desktop loads a text file will open (report.txt).

After that try the microsoft update - it worked great for me.
