At the moment I am in London for my work. in this building we only have
access to internet due to a proxy-server.

Can somebody help me?

Can you get notified of updates there?
If you get the notifications you can use them to find the manual download.
Then download and install manually.

this is not very useful ... we are using isa server 2004 and infront of it is
a IWSS server. Would the root cause of the problem is the iwss server?

(cross-post added to ISA Clients)

The usual problem with proxy servers is that they won't accept the
anonymous connections required during downloads.

However, my understanding is that they may allow the user to use
at least WU and perhaps even AU to show the list of updates
available for download. In that case you would be able to identify
the updates you need to install and download them (relatively easily)
manually. That is the circumvention which I was suggesting to the OP
for this thread.

FYI
