0x80072EFD update problem

Searched a number of newsgroups for the solution for this but not had
much success. Microsoft windows update problem, unable to blah blah.
Would very much appreciate any advice.

Windows Home edition sp2

In my case (I started getting the same error today), I was using a firewall,
but get the same error even when it is disabled! Even if I take the huge risk
of disabling AV and antispyware software as well as the firewall, I still get
the same error, just it takes a couple of seconds longer to appear! I have
also checked my hosts and lmhosts files; both are as created. Putting
windowsupdate into the trusted area also makes no difference...

Any more ideas?
