Got it working...I installed latest version of Java from Sun and all is well.
Not sure why but sure happy it fixed it.

i dont know if this be useful but it worked for me
1right click windows update
2properties
3shortcut tab
4advanced button
5tick-run with different credentials
6 close,apply ,ok
7 right click windows update
8tick run as current user,ok
when on windows update click administrator options
9click on windows update catalog
and there you can install the critial updates
