0x800a01ad error when attempt to update windows

I have XP SP1 and cannot update windows automatically or manually. Receive
the following message.

[Error number: 0x800A01AD]
Windows Update has encountered an error and cannot display the requested
page. You may find the following resources helpful in resolving the problem:

The fix told me to update registry to give permissions to certain users.
These permissions were already there. HELP!

I noticed that people on this site have had this problem since August with
SP1 and SP2 and there are several fixes to try that have not worked for many
people. Is Microsoft working on this? Has anyone resolved this for SP1 and
what did you do?
