I tried all the recommendations in the postings and elsewwhere. None worked
although I am sure they will fix most problems. Mine started after
downloading XP SP2. I could see something was blocking MS Update and that it
was an Activex problem as described in earlier postings. What I found (on the
5th day) was a browser add-on located at
C:\Windows\System32\BlockActivex.dll. The registry location was
{702EA91C-1ACF-4772-8078-18F2B2EE1032}, company name not provided, 2004. I
have to give credit for the problem identification to SpySweeper by Webroot
which highlighted the problem under the "Shields" section of its main menu >
Browser Add-ons>Block Activex Module ()>See More Detail. If you can't fix the
problem through the security settings in IE, then start looking at what
Browser Add-ons you might have unknowingly collected. Hope this helps.
