I have not been able to do any updates due to that error. I haven't seen
this error posted. I tried the fix per the updates page and it doesn't
change anything.

looks like I found a fix after doing a search on the error number that dates
to 2005. but it has fixed the problem so far. Who is in control of our
computers anyway?

1) Are you using ZoneAlarm? If so, go to the Privacy Site list and click add
button. Enter update.microsoft.com. Click Ok
Locate the new entry on the Site List and right click on it then select
options. Deselect items that are selected on all 3 tabs. Ensure you click
Apply as you do. Clean out your brower cache and try again.

2) In NIS Under Firewall Programs
Add: wupdmgr.exe
This is located in %SystemRoot%\system32 - TaurArian [MS-MVP] 2005-2007 -

An error occurs when Windows Update is unable to download and install the Windows Update
ActiveX component.
Can also be caused when a firewall blocks the download of the component.

Try adding the following sites to the IE Trusted Sites zone

http://update.microsoft.com
http://download.windowsupdate.microsoft.com

You may need to uncheck "Require Server Verification (https for all sites in this zone
to add these sites.
Recheck when finished.

You receive an "Initialization error 0x800A1391" error message and the Windows Update Web
site does not appear

Check for parasites:

Check your firewall settings.

For ZoneAlarm, go into the privacy tab and add update.microsoft.com under the site list
tab and enable mobile codes for only this one.
This will allow Active X to be run, which is required for Windows Update to run
successfully.

I fixed it!! Nothing suggested seemed to work. I kept at it and figured it out finally! I
use ZoneAlarm Security Suite 2006 for anti-virus/anti-spyware protection. I opened the
application main menu and clicked 'Privacy' on left menu. On the upper right there are 3
Tabs named Main, Site List & Cache Cleaner. Click on Main tab and go down to 3rd option at
bottom of window called Mobile Code Control. Click 'Custom' button. In 'Custom Privacy
Settings' window click tab called 'Mobile Code'. Click button named 'Reset to Default'.
Click 'Apply' then 'OK'. That should do it. The ActiveX embedded objects had been blocked
causing Windows Update to be blocked as a result. Hope this helps anyone who needs it. If
using other security software check the settings to be sure this isn't what is preventing
updates from running.
Good luck!!
