Some advice needed please.

I have tried today to use Windows Update and am getting the error message
0x800B0001.

I have tried to follow this

Register the following files
Click Start.
Choose Run.
In the Run box, type regsvr32 wuapi.dll.
Click OK.
Repeat steps 1 through 4 for the following files: wuaueng.dll, wucltui.dll,
wups.dll, wuweb.dll,atl.dll.

and also this

Register the following files
Click Start.
Choose Run.
In the Run box, type regsvr32 Softpub.dll.
Click OK.
Repeat steps 1 through 4 for the following files: Wintrust.dll, Initpki.dll,
Mssip32.dll.

but my system tells me that atl.dll is not valid I can get passed regsvr32
wuapi.dll. and in the second section regsvr32 Softpub.dll.
but for everything else just get a prog opening mesage which asks me to
chose a prog to open this with and then I can't enter this into the run box
and now seem to go round in circles..................I have looked at KB
822798 but am at a loss to know what to do next.

Can anyone walk me through the procedures I have to use.

Many thanks

Mary Q
