0x800C0008 error on W2K Pro

Ok. Windows 2000 Pro machine that has just started getting the above error.
The complaint is about a time discrepancy.

I have looked at the suggestions at
http://www3.telus.net/dandemar/0x800c0005.htm

What has worked is to use the following as suggested;
https://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.com/en/default.asp

My question is, what is next? Using https is a workaround but it doesn't
solve the problem.
