Trying to install Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1 and got this
error message with a fatal error. Told to debug, so I do and the update
doesn't install? Please help me if I need this update.

I am having the same problem. It may not be a big deal, as I've lived
without this .net service pack for over a year now. But it keeps wanting me
to install it, and it keeps failing. Anyone in the software developers know
what this clear, unambiguous error message means?

I am searching everywhere for a solution to this.
It does make a difference as it seems to mean large chunks of directx are
not installed. Which is a *serious* hassle.
Not that microsoft seem to care. I have sent emails without response.
searched the db without finding help.
Perhaps someone at Microsoft occasionally reads what users are asking.
If they are, I seriously object to bne asked for payment for support for
something caused by an automated download which was reccomended to me by
Microsoft.
Not that a human ever does even scan this site.

I'm with you. MS knows there is a problem but apparently isn't going to fix
it or respond to it. My Compaq support people told me the following:
To fix it you have to reinstall your original (yes, original) Windows XP
(from the OEM disk).
If you don't need it, ignore it.

I've done that and the only problem is Windows Update keeps telling me I
need to install the frigg'n updates.

By the way, it's the same error for Net 1.0 SP3 and Net 1.1 SP1. Neither
one of them installs and both give the same 0x80131506 error.

This sounds really helpful. Can you give any more details of how you tracked
down components connected with .net? Do they all have a .net suffix? Is there
an easy way to pick them out?
Thanks
