0x80131700 Error on attempting to update Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1

Running Windoze XP with SP2, all critical patches applied (except this one
which fails!)

Using McAfee AntiVirus, Windoze XP SP2 Firewall, MSAS. All with current
patches.
Plenty of available disk-space.

Suggestions welcome.
