Running on Windows 2000. I get "Error number: 0x8019012E"
when I try to run windows update. Is there a workaround?

are you behind a proxyserver?

goto start/run and type "cmd /k proxycfg", what is the output?

the error code 0x8019012E is equivalent to "HTTP Error 302" that means
that the resource has temporarily moved.

Yes, I am behind a proxy. Here's the output when I run the command you gave
from the command-line:

C:\WINNT>cmd /k proxycfg

Microsoft (R) WinHTTP Default Proxy Configuration Tool
Copyright (C) Microsoft Corporation 2001.

Current WinHTTP proxy settings under:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\
SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections\
WinHttpSettings :

Proxy Server(s) : VAMISA00:8080
Bypass List : (none)

OK, given that I am behind a proxy, what does this mean?

What do I need to do to get Windows Update to work for me?

try direct access typing this at the command prompt

"proxycfg -d"

Seems like a miss configuration in your proxy....
