0x80244016 - Windows XP Professional SP2

Hello

I'm running Windows XP Pro SP2 and have tried doing a windows update with
this error number being returned after I choose the "Custom" install option.

I have checked the other posts suggesting the below, and have tried the
suggestions to no avail.

- Clearing Temp Inet Files. Enabling ActiveX controls.
- Proxycfg -d option + wuauserv restart
- Downloading the KB suggested in Diane and TaurArian's posts.

Anyone have any other ideas?

Haevlyn,

Could you please post which suggested KB you downloaded and installed ?

Go to Start, Run, type in

services.msc

Click OK.
These services need to be Started :

Automatic Updates
BITS
Event Log

Set BITS to Manual and the other 2 services to Automatic via the Startup
type: drop down window. Click the Apply button if any changes were made,
then click OK.
If any settings were changed, revisit Windows Update, and click the
Custom button once again

Which antivirus software|firewalls are installed ?
Is the system on a home network with a router ?
Does the router have a hardware firewall ?
