Hello all.

I have been unable, for some time, to download any windows updates. This is
true whether automatic updates are switched on or off. I entered the
0x80246008 error message into the search database, and followed the
instructions, but to no avail! The 0x80246001 doesn't seem to bring any
results.

Each time, it never gets past the "preparing to download" stage.

Thanks and regards,

Ally Maypole.

Hi,

This have solved the 0x80246001 problem for some:

Rename (or just delete) the SoftwareDistribution folder and
see if it helps.

You can use the procedure described here:

http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=21&ln=en

Note that a side effect of renaming or deleting the
SoftwareDistribution folder is that you lose your Windows Update
History listing (not critical).

(later on, you can just delete the renamed SoftwareDistribution
folder)
