0x80246008 error + BITS

Windows update does not work (XP Home SP2). tried registereing the 2 dlls in
KB article for this error message but with no success.

Established that BITS is stopped but clcking on start just gets error
message referring to code 2147024894. Tried to reinstall BITS over existing
version following KB article but still cannot start BITS. I cannot discover
how to uninstall BITS. The only update available from downloads is an
earlier version and will not install. Grateful for any help.

Hi,

Please try this:

Start Regedit.exe (from Start/Run)

Locate the registry key
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l\BackupRestore\

Create the following key if it does not exist:
FilesNotToBackup

so you have this path when finished:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Contro l
\BackupRestore\FilesNotToBackup\


Try to start BITS again...

It appears that you do not have the following directory on your machine:

%ALLUSERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Network

Create this directory and then do a 'net starts bits'.

I have found the fix in the BITS error 2147942402 (0x80070002) thread.
