1/8/08 update problems

I'm running Vista business 64. On 1/8/2008 I installed these seven updates:
kb943899
kb943302
kb905866
kb943411
kb941644
kb935509
Malicious software removal tool (forgot the kb number)

When I clicked restart after installing all the updates, my computer took
over an hour to configure them before I had to manually turn my PC off. The
first 45 minutes or so it showed "Configuring updates..." and the remaining
time was "Shutting down". After restarting, I got a configuring updates
screen and windows restarted again on its own right after that screen.

In Problem Reports and Solutions, there are 5 problems that occured duing the
updates:

-Windows encountered a problem while installing device drivers for your
Standard AHCI 1.0 Serial ATA Controller.
-Windows encountered a problem while installing device drivers for your
Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE Controller.
-Windows encountered a problem while installing device drivers for your IDE
Channel (3 times).

I have no idea why Windows update is installing device drivers when they are
all up to date to begin with. I went into device manager and clicked Update
Drivers to make sure.

In the event viewer, there are hundreds of warnings and errors regarding all
of the
updates under the following Event IDs: 4386, 4376, 4374, 4375, 4385.

One of the updates that I installed, kb935509, was only supposed to go out
to vista enterprise and ultimate editions. See this post from the MS Update

I don't know if that caused it. The 7 updates were shown as being
succesfully installed in Windows Update, but I didn't know for sure. I did a
system restore to a point prior to the updates and then tried updating again.
This time, only 6 were available-- the kb35509 one that I wasn't supposed to
get was gone. Thus, I went ahead and updated again, but the same thing
happened as before! Windows got stuck on the Configuring Updates and I had to
manually shut down after patiently waiting 20 minutes or so.

I've tried uninstalling the updates via Programs and Features in the control
panel, but after rebooting Windows got stuck on Configuring Updates again.
The updates weren't uninstalled. What should I do?
