16-bit Windows apps?

Can anyone remind me - does Vista support 16-bit Windows apps?

Apparently, it does, unless you're running the 64 Bit version of Vista.
And even if it doesn't, you could always download Microsoft Virtual PC
2007 and install an OS like Windows XP into a virtual machine so that
you can.

But this does beg the question: Why would you want to run an old 16-bit
program anyway other than as a history lesson?

The 64 bit version does not support 16 bit Windows applications at all since
they removed the 16 bit sub system with the release of Windows XP
Professional x64. Windows Vista 32-bit support them to some degree, but its
not guaranteed to work.

My personal recommendation is to run such applications in their native
versions of Windows in Virtual Machine program such as Virtual PC 2007.

Same problem, vendor says program is not Vista 64bit compatible
(and apparently has no intent to rewrite it).
Some vendors have gone out of business.

I've got to modify some software that was developed for a Psion device,
using a software development tool called Oval, which is donkey's years old
and has never been updated from the days of 16-bit Windows.

Of course, if it were a complete rewrite of the code I'd probably port it to
a more modern tool, but it's just a few tweaks.

run it in an virtual machine. I know for sure the program I need runs under
XP.
