Hi Susie,
I honestly haven't heard of anyone else having the problem. As such, it's something specific
to your environment. As a test, why not try another client that supports the .NET Messenger
network (what Windows Live Messenger uses to communicate). One example of this is Trillian
(
http://www.trillian.cc) although there's others.
Remote Assistance requires a direct connection to work and unlike the other functions in
Messenger, doesn't have a relay server that will relay connections if a direct connection
fails. By "direct connection" I mean your computer can directly connect to the person you're
trying to assist. The most general cause is a router on the person's local network which
doesn't support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). But that's the reason why it sometimes works
and sometimes does not.
