I have installed 2003 server to a new HP DL380 G3, both
times the install appears to be successful but when I go
to windows update the problems start. I am in formed there
is a new version of windows update that I need to
download, I choose to download I then get told that the
download is not from a trusted source or digitally signed,
I accept the down but then the download just takes me back
to I need new software. Do you think it could be a corrupt
install, a problem with the server hardware. Any thoughts
appreciated.

Hello,

Have just installed Windows Server 2003 on two Dell PE1750
servers. When I run Windows Update, the Windows Update returns
with error 0x800C0005. The "Windows Update.log" repports
following error: "Querying software update catalog from
https://v4.windowsupdate.microsoft.c...etmanifest.asp
(Error 0x80072EFD)"

Have never experienced this problem right after installing
Windows Server 2003.

Does anyone experienced the same?

Thanks
Best Regards

I foun this while looking for info,
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-
us;843499 but why? It didn't help me, but I am now seeing
issues when installing patches manually with kerenl32.dll
and pointer errors. It seems like my install is corrupt,
but why twice and I installed from same disk to same or
very similar hardware on the same day, the only difference
is the amount of RAM!!!

Hi

Some trouble shooting step for error 0x80072EFD here (I would think
the most likely cause for your error is a Proxy/Firewall configuration
error):

When accessing the Windows Update site, you receive the 0x80072EFD error.
http://v5.windowsupdate.microsoft.co...cleid=16&ln=en

You should also try the steps here:

When searching for available updates on the Windows Update site, you
receive the 0x8024402C, 0x80240030 or 0x8024502d error.

You might need to use proxycfg.exe (see link above) to either set
or remove a proxy server configuration:

Open a command prompt (Start/Run and then "cmd.exe" without the
quotes").

Run this command to see what proxy configuration WU uses:

proxycfg

If you don't have a proxy, you will need status

Direct access (no proxy server).

If it reports anything else, to set direct access:

proxycfg -d

To get more help on proxycfg:

proxycfg -?
