We have a DL580G4 machine which is a 4 Socket Xeon, Dual Core machine with
Hyperthreading. This gives us 4 Socket, 8 CPU and 16 Logical processors /
threads in total. Looking at some of the MS documentation on hyperthreading
(Win Support for Hyper-Threading Technology) it states that Standard edition
will support the 4 Sockets.... great, but later on it also states that the
Maximum Logical Processor Limit for Std is 8. Does this mean to use all the
possible threads (16) on the machine we would have to install enterprise
edition? Thanks

Hello Flipper,
Can you point the link that you read the limitation on?
There should not be a limit to 8 logical processors.
It should see all 16 processors with Windows Server 2003 Standard edition/

Hello Darrell,

Thanks for the reply, yes that would seem logical but looking at this
document it says otherwise. The document is the Windows Platform Design Notes
- Windows Support for Hyper-Threading Technology
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/system...t-windows.mspx

Look on page ten at the processor limits and although the O/S detects the
logical processors it would suggest that it does not use them?
