2008 R2, 2008 sp1 vm - no exchange 2007?

Exchange 2007 will run on 2008 sp1 (non R2)
It will not run on 2008 R2.

If I have a server running R2 and then create a virtual machine running 2008
sp1, then try to install Exchange 2007, I get the error that it will not run
on the OS.

Does the VM take characteristics from the host OS? why does it think it is
an R2 installation it is running on and does this mean I cannot run the
server as R2 even if I have 2003 VMs??

Where to go from here.. .thanks in advance,
Rob

Hello ClickityClick,

No, VM will not takeover something from the hosting system. Which exact error
message do you get and do you use Exchange 2007 SP1 on a 2008 RTM version?
Why do you say R2 is running on the 2008 guest, is it the error message?

Best regards

The error is when the Exchange setup is checking each module (mailbox, hub
transport, etc.) prior to installation.
Each result is "Exchange is not supported on the OS"

Hello ClickityClick,

Is the 2008 server 64bit version? Do you use at least Exchange 2007 SP1 on
a 2008 RTM version?

Best regards

first release.

Hello ClickityClick,

You must use Exchange 2007 SP1, not Exchange 2007 RTM, to run on the 2008
RTM server.
