2008 SP1 vm's don't get drivers in 2008R2 host OS?

I cannot put Exchange in a 2008R2 VM so I try to use a 2008 SP1 VM, but when
I load the OS, device manager is missing several drivers and/or does not
recognize devices. This does not happen if the host machine is loaded up
with 2008 SP1 and run vm's with the same OS.

Specifically,
1. Human Interface Device
- Microsoft VMBus HID Miniport
2. Network Adapters
- Microsoft VMBus Network Adapters
3. Other devices
- Unknown device
and...
4. Storage Controllers
- storvsc miniport

Shouldn't the OS CD load these since they are virtualized from the host OS?
Or am I stuck and have to go back and use HyperV in 2008SP1 which is
awful...

Thanks in advance

Hello ClickityClick,

If you install a VM in Hyper-v you have to use the integration services to
get full compatible hardware simulation in the guest system.

Also Exchange 2007 can not be installed on a 2008 R2 server. You have to
use 2008 or wait for Exchange 2010.

Best regards

I did install the VM in Hyper V.
I don't know what you mean about using integration services.

I used Hyper V to create the VM then used the virtual CD Drive to install
the Windows 2008 sp1 OS.

I am aware that Exchange will not install on R2 and that is why I am
installing a vm with SP1 on the R2 Server.

ClickityClick,
While looking at your VM within Hyper-V manager,
Click 'Action" then select "Insert Integration Services Disk". this
should start the Integration Services install and allow the drivers to
be pulled over.

Hello ClickityClick,

As you already got the info how to install. Each VM server application requires
a kind of drivers to simulate the hardware in the guest OS.
