32 bit Vista Ultimate to 64 bit Vista Ultimate

I just migrated to 64 bit Vista and I have Windows Mail. When I was using 32
bit Vista I had all my Hotmail folders, newsgroups, calendar, etc. when I
selected the Mail icon. Is there a way to migrate Hotmail to Windows Mail,
or a way to replace Windows Mail with what I had when I was using 32 bit
Vista?

I had IE 8 with 32 bit and I have IE 8 with 64 bit.

When you click on the Mail button in IE8, it opens the default email
program. In Vista, the default is set to Windows Mail.
To make Hotmail webmail the default, try this...

Thanx, Dave.

But this doesn't allow me to do what I want. I don't want to launch Hotmail
from the "Mail" icon. I want to be able to access my Hotmail folders in
Windows Mail. I was able to do this previously and I think my wife still can
on her machine. I'll check her machine later and post back.

There must have been a time when clicking on Add an Email account in Windows
Mail allowed one to add web based email accounts which doesn't seem to be an
option anymore.

Ok.
Windows Mail cannot access http email accounts, like Hotmail.
You can use the newer Windows Live Mail to access your Hotmail account, like
you did with OE...
-- or --
you can use Windows Mail to access Hotmail's POP3 servers (email is
downloaded to your computer and removed from the server).

the required settings are here... try 587 for the Outgoing port...

However, Windows Mail is hard-coded to reject Hotmail/Live/MSN accounts.
But you can fool it by entering a fake email address (), and
then changing it to your real address ().

and addresses. When you enter your email address during setup,

I'm setup to receive Hotmail in my Windows Live.

I checked on my wife's computer and the tray Mail icon indicates Windows
Live but it is completely different than what I have on this machine. In the
left pane both our Hotmail accounts are listed and there is a newsgroup,
calendar, RSS etc. optiom listed. If I click on the calendar it takes me to
me Hotmail calendarI set the 32 bit Vista machines up several years ago but
I don't remember having to jump through the current hoops.

I've been using Hotmail since before it was Microsoft. I've tried most of
the web email services but we're happy with Hotmail. I think most of those
bashing Hotmail are doing so not because the others are better but simply
because it is Microsoft. Having said that I guess I'll never understand how
these big companies make decisions. Here we have Windows Live blocking
Hotmail and they're both the same company.

So, when you use that phrase, it isn't clear what you mean by it.
Chances are, you mean Windows Live Mail or Windows Live Hotmail,

I neglected to open Windows Live Mail download and set it as my default
mail/news handler.

I don't know how I overlooked this. I guess I could try to blame it on age -
the mind and/or eye sight is failing. I'll tell you these "golden years"
aren't all they're cracked up to be.
