I've had a chance to run the "360 Share" file shareing program for a few days
and it run great. The problem is now that it can't seem to run and this
seems to have happened spontainously, without my changing any Windows or
anti-virus settings. I was told to look into my Windows firewall settings to
correct things, but I've found that somehow the Windows firewall program is
unable to open. I get this error message about the service (ICS) not running
or being able to open. So I'm basically stuck and a little confused about
it. Any ideas?

Sounds like a virus or spyware. Download, install, and Run ALL the below:

Ad-Aware

Spybot - Search & Destroy by Patrick Kolla
http://security.kolla.de/
http://spybot.eon.net.au/
http://www.safer-networking.org/

NOTE: After you install the above, click "Online" and get the latest updates for the database.
Update it regularly for new spy info.

This is a link to a small FREE program by McAfee Anti-virus named "Stinger".
It will scan your system for 53 known viruses and trojans and repair them.
You don't need McAfee anti-virus installed on your computer... this is a
stand alone program. http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/
Direct download: http://download.nai.com/products/mca...rt/stinger.exe

Microsoft provides free anti-virus software that can be used for 1 year.

This is not a virus. I'm extremely thourough on that matter. I use Trend
PC-cillin, which works perfectly, and better than Norton. Spybot I've used
before and only gave problems. Ad-ware was ineffective. I use the Microsoft
Beta program for adware.

I'd really like a more specific response to what I mentioned is the problem,
as opposed to generalized guesses.

If that resolves your issue, you most likely had malware in control and when
it was removed, the damage became evident.

You said you were thorough, but what you listed is minimal and far from
thorough.

Running only one of each of those types of programs may not be sufficient in
your case.
Particularly with antispyware programs, it is normal to need to run more
than one to help be sure all spyware is gone.
SpyBot and Ad-Aware would be a good addition routinely as well as another
virus scan while you still have problems.

Another major clue to your problem is 360 share.
P2P programs are a well known source of all types of malware.
If you are going to use P2P, you need to be much more careful than you may
otherwise need.

J.J.

Thanks for the help. In fact I was able to clear the way to using Wndows
Firewall, but I am still getting the same original problem that led me to
discover the WF problem. It's irksome.
