I was tired of all the freezing and slow down of my computer after the Sp2,so
i uninstalled it.Now my 3D graphics card isnt working correctly and if i try
to play a game (that i have been playing for over a year) I get the error msg
"Unable to open a graphics window. Make sure you have the latest drivers
installed from your 3-D graphics card vendor. If you have previously run
Toontown successfully and are unable to run now, it may help to restart your
computer. Your Graphics Card Info: Intel(R) 82815 Graphics Controller
7/23/2002 6.13.1.3196 ."I have spoken to gateway and there idea was to
reinstall Sp2,so I did. No changes, same msg.Its not just with this one game
it is with all games. Also says on some games that i no longer have 3D
software. All updates have been done.Im running XP home edition. Any help
would be great..Thanks

Did you get the latest drivers for the video card (From Intel it seems to be
version 6.7)?

(Shorter Link: http://snipurl.com/e2r5 )
and/or (in your case):
http://support.gateway.com/support/d...3&uid=83777628 (Shorter Link: http://snipurl.com/e2r6 )Although DirectX 9.0c is included in SP2, have you tried reinstalling it? http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en (Shorter Link: http://snipurl.com/818l )--<- Shenan ->--The information is provided "as is", it is suggested you research foryourself before you take any advice - you are the one ultimatelyresponsible for your actions/problems/solutions. Thank You

Obviously the machine is out of warranty. It also seems (from the
description) that the video card is integrated into the motherboard - so if
it has "burned out", I think the symptoms would be broader than an inability
to use 3D applications.

You said you installed the drivers for the card from Intel? I would grab
those if you have not - they are the actual makers of the chipset, so their
drivers may remedy the problem where Gateway's did not.

Before I would go spending money on a new video card (truthfully, the Intel
chipset is fine as long as you aren't into 3D games) - I would backup your
stuff, slipstream/integrate SP2 into your Windows XP CD and reinstall from
scratch to verify it's not just something awry with your current install.
If you did it right (with a third party imaging utility to fully backup your
system NOW as it is) - then you could restore if it did fix it and see if we
cannot figure out is wrong. If it turns out to be the video card (in other
words, it still fails after a FRESH install of Windows XP) - then you can
restore the image and then go out and get a decent video card and install it
and move on..

Additionally - to help with your new video card search, if it comes to it:

1. Before you buy, make sure you have the proper slot needed to use the
card.. PCI, AGP, PCI Express, etc.
2. Research.. Both for need and price.
3. Look for opinions on cards at places like epinions.com.
4. If possible - it is always better for YOU (individual component-wise) to
buy LOCALLY. Allows you to take things back easily.
