After installing the updates that came out on 4/11/06 I now have 2 problems.
When I type URL's into the address bar in Internet Explorer, and then click
on "Go" nothing happens. Also, when I go into the Control Panel and click on
the keyboard icon, the "Buttons" tab is no longer there, so I am now unable
to modify my keyboard settings.

Does anybody have a fix for these update issues?

Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install
security update MS06-015
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165/en-us
Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-015

Vulnerability in Windows Explorer Could Allow Remote Code Execution

For those who have Hewlett Packard's Share to Web Software, there
are two registry patches to choose from (run either one or the
other) not both:

I've made a "patch" back on Saturday available at:
http://patch-info.de/WinXP/Downloads...are-To-Web.zip
(Note this is a Zip file and will need to be extracted. It contains
a REG file which needs to be imported into the registry via double
clicking the contained REG file. You may have to reboot Windows
afterwards.)

or

Kelly has made a patch with exact same functionality available at:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm
Line #383 - this is a vbs file and instructions on how to use such
files are at the top of the page.

If you're using a Nvidia video card, you may want to update the driver
for that card: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp

In case you're running a Kerio firewall software, please reread
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165/en-us cloesly.

HTH,
Freudi

Again what about the people who have an OEM card from
dell? I went on the dell web site and the update I performed
did not solve the problem

Call the Dell support? <duck>

I have had a Dell Nvidia OEM video card back in another machine.
I just didn't care and installed the Nvidia drivers (similar
chipset family). Guess what? They simply worked.

In case there aren't any updates or you won't update anyway, have
a look into msconfig (not available in Windows 2000) and check
the "Systemstart" tab, if you find anything related to the Nvidia
driver. Disabling that task from startup may help.

I installed the drivers. The upgrade still prevented me from accessing
the windows address book.

I also disabled the Nview Desk Top Manager with no luck.

This is nice of your Ottmar and the rest of you on this newsgroup
who have been helpful but it's really up to microsoft to do something.

You and everybody else should not be spending valuble time tweaking
the computer. After all this is not Linux and Mr. Gates refuses to
make his code open source so why should the rest of us act as beta
tester pawns to make millions of dollars for him.

YOUR ATTENTION PEOPLE!!

All these resolutions don't help if you don't have the HP software
installed. I have a Pavilion 4040 but no sign of that software. The fixes
didn't work for me. I still can't access the internet neither with IE nor
with Firefox. Microsoft needs to do something about this!! HP don't know how
to fix it and here we are without even able to perform a search in Google!

As you may have noted, I'm ending my postings regarding KB908531
with the words

for that card: http://www.nvidia.com/content/drivers/drivers.asp
