4 Gb Memory Problem

Iv heard and am experiencing problem because i have 4 gigs of video memory. Is there ANYWAY at all short of taking the memory out of my laptop that could allow me to "trick" my computer into thinking it had less ram and being able to "untrick" it on the fly? Thanks
