I have 4 updates, which have kb numbers: 890859, 931784, 900485, 920872.

I have no idea how many times I have installed these updates now (there is
another one about 2 stop errors which also has this problem, but it only
shows up if I hide these 4), but they will just not vanish from Automatic
Updates.

I have also tried manually installing them countless times with still no luck.

What should I do?

The answer appears to be the same for all four of these: you need to install
them manually from a command line prompt with parameter /o

For instance, open a command prompt window and navigate using the "cd"
command to the correct directory where you have the manual downloads stored.
Then type the name of the executable, followed by at least one blank space,
then /o as in:

WindowsXP-KB920872-x86-ENU.exe /o

Make sure you install them in KB number order, with lowest KB number first.
