4gb ram upgrade working on Vista 32, problem with KB929777

Hi,
Just upgraded my Dell Inspiron 1520-bios A07 (vista home premium) to
4GB of Kingston value ram. At re boot it was fine and the upgraded ram
has been identified (it shows at 3573MB) I fully understand that it will
not recognise the actual 4GB.

Vista update KB929777, will not install (update error 8000FFFF) is
displayed. I have looked at all the posts for a fix for this, but the
ones that I have found have not been able to resolve this update error.
Including the regedit mod post ( I do not appear to have the entries
that require modification)

Any help will be appreciated

Brilliant site, always come here for tips and info, have been
spreading word about vistax64.com

Welcome to the Vista x64 Forums arty:

One solution I've read about is this:

1. Uninstall KB929777 (start>control panel>programs &
features>programs>view installed updates)

2. Then try installing it directly, not through auto-update:
'Error message when you try to install Windows Vista on a computer that
uses more than 3 GB of RAM: \"STOP 0x0000000A\"'

3. Find and click the download link for KB929777

There are also other suggestions on the Microsoft website for this
situation.

Let us know if this worked for you.

Joe, thank you for the reply

I have tried the download from the link you sent me. Unfortunately the
update did not install (same as using the MS windows update button) the
suggestion on the link you sent me, suggested that I remove 2gb of ram
then try to install the update.

I haven't tried this, as I am waiting for a new 320gb SATA laptop drive
to be delivered. so I can create a backup of the current installed
drive.

A touch belt & braces I admit, however I am not 100% confident that
removing the 2GB will solve the problem. Call me a sceptic, but if
KB929777 won't install using the preferred route then something is
amiss.

David
