jamie1984,

If you are on broadband and you do not have access to the original
installation media, suggest you download the " fullfile " versions of
the updates and save them to the Hard Drive. ( Links provided inline on
your original post. See below )Then disconnect from the internet,
temporarily disable the installed antivirus software,
close all open programs and browsers, then install them one by one.
If you're on dialup then the fastest way to do this would be to have the
installation media on hand and download the " client " versions.
Except for KB894384, which is a direct download link, all of the other
links will have both downloadable versions on the bottom of the pages.

>> what is a Error Code: 0x80070643 and how can it be solved?

Seems to be a mystery. Only thread encountered with that error code came
from April and it was in conjunction with the installation of the .Net
framework.

It *may* be an issue with the Windows Installer. If you have the Office
installation media on hand you could try running the Windows Installer
Cleanup Utility and then reinstall Office to it's present location and
then attempt the updates again.
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=290301

You could try the Office Update page after doing so :
http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/of...e/default.aspx
Or, try the V6 site again.

i Downloaded the fulfile versions and they did not install 'update could not
be applied'

i used the windows installer to remove it so i can reinstall it

i reinstalled it but at the end of the installation it was not successful.
saying there were installation problems and sent a report to Microsoft

i attempted to install it again and now my offical Office 2003 Proffessional
Edition Product ID has been locked out and now invalid. a Microsoft glich or
software bug with that rare error id caused this and now i got a dead
program. can not open MS Office documents nor launch the program from the
startmenu however if i go navigate winword (MS Word Access.exe or Excel etc
it it runs the program but with no product id.

i duplicated this in the Newsgroups for Office Update, Office, and Windows
Update

Yuck ... sorry about that. Running the Windows Installer Cleanup Utility
*should* have allowed you to reinstall Office prior to applying the
updates. AFAIK, Office 2003 Service Pack 1 must be installed to allow
the other updates to install. Is it already installed?

SP1 for Office 2003 (Professional Ed) was installed prior to the problems of
the office updates accuring. cause updates before janurary 2005 installed no
problems

when going to c:\program files\Microsoft Office\OFFICE11 in here there is
Winword Outlook etc. and this is the copy of Microsoft Office Programs thats
11.6255.6360 (version that i had before using windows install cleanup utility)

Clicking a program like winword opens MS Word (no problems) All but Outlook
2003 still work this way (however not via the start menu and desktop) this is
the product ID less version. Outlook after the windows clean up utility got a
corrupted file. (all program were working fine before but could not use
office update)

Just noticed office 2003 still has the video email plug in for outlook so i
might deinstall that

jamie1984,

OK, let's make sure I have the scenario straight. You ran the Windows
Installer Cleanup Utility and removed the installation configuration
settings for the updates, not the Office installation, correct ?
Then you attempted to reinstall the update and that failed again and now
when you open Office programs there is no Product ID showing.
You can not open any Office shortcuts from the Start Menu nor any Office
documents from within Office, but you can run Word, Excel, etc. by
navigating to their executables (winword.exe,etc.).

One would think that by using System Restore you can roll the system
back to just prior to attempting the first install of the update(s).
This restore point would have been created prior to running the
Installer Cleanup Utility. There *should* have been a restore point
created when you attempted to install the first update.
Give that a shot before we attempt anything else.

Is Version 6 public now? Otherwise perhaps there is a beta forum
this question should be asked in?

Perhaps there was a regression in WUv6 to some WUv4 behaviour?
<eg>

http://groups-beta.google.com/group/...4ce5ec535660dd

(Google Groups search for
80070643 OR 0x80070643 MSFT OR MVP -walters group:microsoft.*.windowsupdate
)

Reply to a WUv4 user last year:
<quote>
Another case that the troubleshooter still doesn't mention under this code
is either creating directories in or writing to a mapped network drive where
you don't have permission to do those things. You can find that case
described under a different error code in the troubleshooter by doing a find
with the word mapped
</quote>

If there are insufficient clues in the logs my suggestion would be to use
FileMon to monitor the install to try to figure out what file or directory
is not accessible by the account which is doing the install. FileMon would
highlight the account too which is something which was totally obscured in
WUv4 though not too important but very important in WUv5 and not very
obvious, especially if the log is only being examined long after the relevant
tasks have ended.
