60 updates to do

We had XP SP2 put on fresh install of XP Home. Now Windows Updates gives
about 51 "Critical Security Updates for XP" and 9 "Updates for XP".

Do I let Windows install the 60 updates of them all at once?
Or can I assume that lower numbered updates are earlier than higher numbered
one?

One posting says install 4 or 5 at a time in order. Another posting says
except for hotfixes, the install order does not matter. Another posting says
best not to install old updates over newer updates.

It usually does not produce a problem to install all updates at once,
particularly after a fresh install. Update will Install them in the proper
order. If you do elect to install them in smaller batches and an update you
have selected needs one of the others installed first as a prerequisite you
will receive a message from update informing you of this. If you decide to
install the first 60 at the same time, rerun update again as it is common for
additional updates to appear in a fresh install, repeat this until no more
needed updates are shown.
