71 updates failed repeatedly after XP-Pro update. HDD bussy 0,5 h.

After updating my 3 year old XP home (allways updatet) I received > 90
updates. 71 failed repeatedly. Error code 80080008. After that "acronics true
image 10" cannot find drives. After startup HDD drive is bussy up to half an
hour and almost inoperable during that time.
Discard updates? How?

Click Start, select run and type the following (pressing okay after each one):-

net.exe stop wuauserv

regsvr32 wuapi.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng1.dll
regsvr32 wucltui.dll
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 MSXML3.dll

net.exe start wuauserv

Thanks a lot. This is working!! 93 updates succeeded now - bravo!
But what are we doing???? What was wrong with update? Microsoft should
know and correct the error.

windows update failed with this error code after changing motherboard and
repairing my installation.

Just so everyone has the article that documents this problem officially:

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update,
from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after
you repair a Windows XP installation
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/943144

(Try it even if you did a clean, not repair, installation.)
(Try it even if you performed some sort of restore - not repair install.)
(Try it even if you did an upgrade installation.)

Do all suggested methods.

CDRom. Downloaded 87 updates, but could not install....! Your system worked

inability to install updates on Windows XP after performing a repair
installation, restoration, etc...),

Updates are not installed successfully from Windows Update,
from Microsoft Update, or by using Automatic Updates after
you repair a Windows XP installation

(Try even if you dopn't think/know for sure that the description fits.)

Do all suggested methods, reboot after each one.

Visit http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com/ and do a CUSTOM scan for updates.
My suggestion is not to install any Optional Hardware Updates - the Optional
Software ones are okay... IMHO.
