8.1 beta being pushed out over 8.0 final on Vista

I'm still running Windows Vista Home Premium x64, build 5744. I had WLM
8.0.0812.00 installed. Every now and then it told me there was an updated
version available, but upon installing it turned out to be a beta for 8.1
(8.1.0168.00_ClientV8.1).

This doesn't seem to be happening on my XP Pro SP2 partition - does that
fact that it's a beta OS make WLM think I'm participating in its beta
program too? I wouldn't mind so much but this version occasionally crashes
when I open the contacts panel. I wouldn't expect non-beta users to be
informed of updated beta builds being pushed out.

Greetings Andrew,

Windows Messenger 8.0 is not supported on Windows Vista, as such you're prompted to upgrade
to 8.1 which is supported.

Lots of Vista is still beta, like the inbox video drivers for example.

Hi Jonathan... is there any info on what exactly isn't supported? 8.0 is
working fine in every aspect I use. 8.1 beta on the other hand crashes at
least once per session! I've reverted to 8.0 and will just ignore the
upgrade prompts for now, but it would be interesting to know what's not
supposed to work under Vista.

Hi,

It's mainly audio/video that has issues, plus a very minor issues with the toasts (alerts).

The final 8.1 is supposed to ship sometime before Vista does, so perhaps the final release
will function better. The current beta of 8.1 crashes periodically for me on Vista also.
