Gerd,
There may be a content mismatch in the DataStore folder.
To address this, let's take it in two parts:
Part I
1) click Start
2) click Run
3) type %windir%\SoftwareDistribution
4) click OK
5) When the window opens, double-click the DataStore folder
6) When this folder opens, hold the CTRL key and type the
A key
7) Now that all the files are selected, type the Delete
key and confirm that you do wish to delete all the files
8) Close this window
Part II
1) click Start
2) click Run
3) type services.msc
4) click OK
5) When services window opens, find the Automatic Updates
service.
6) Verify it is not running, right-click on Automatic
Updates and click Start.
(IF this was already running, then right-click and Stop
this service, repeat Part I, then repeat Part II through
step 6, so that the service can be started correctly.)
Let us know how this works out.
