Greetings,

To better tell what's happening, could you try the troubleshooter (should be a button in that
error dialog) and see what tests fail (if any)?

Hi,

If the troubleshooter says everything is OK then it's probably not a firewall or connection
problem per se.

As such, it might be worth trying deleting all the saved Messenger settings which aren't
removed when you uninstall/reinstall. Note that if this works, you will need to reimport all
your Messenger emoticons, winks, etc. so you will want to back them up first using this tool
if these are important to you:
http://www.baisoft.it/msnbackup_english.asp

Then, shut down Messenger if it's running by right-clicking on the icon in the notification
area and choosing Exit. Next, click Start, then Run, enter "%appdata%\microsoft" and click
OK. Then right-click on the MSN Messenger folder and rename it to OldMessenger and press
Enter. Next, try signing into Messenger again and see if you're able to login. If this
doesn't work, go back and rename the folder back to MSN Messenger (so your winks, emoticons,
etc. are maintained without the backup).

Hi,

Well you can try removing the other store of Messenger settings which is in the registry.
You can do this by shutting down Messenger then downloading and running this .reg file:
http://messenger.jonathankay.com/dow...grsettings.reg

Then try signing in again.

If that doesn't work, you may want to see if there's a System Restore point from before this
problem started occurring. You can check this by clicking Start, then Help & Support, then
"Undo changes to my computer using System Restore" and then go through the wizard to restore
back to a point before the problem existed, hopefully there is one.

If there isn't, you may want to uninstall WLM and try MSN Messenger 7.5 instead, to see if
that at least will allow you to login:
