80070005 possible fix

Anyone getting the 80070005 error in their windowd update.log file, I
may have a possible fix for you.

I just spent the last 4 hours troubleshooting this on a windows 2000
server. When I went to windowsupdate.com it kept getting an error
installing the Windows Installer 3.1 and BITS 2.0/WinHTTP updates.

I manually downloaded both of these updates and installed them and now
it seems to be working with the rest of the critical updates needed.

Just a bit of advice to help out.

My system is Windows XP Pro SP2 RU. I receive error 80070005 when I'm trying
to update throught the Windows Update site. I've just installed
WindowsInstaller-KB893803-v2-x86.exe (as you advises) but there is no
effect. WindowsXP-KB842773-v2-x86-rus.exe says that I have more recent
version and I should not install this patch.

Well, my "possible" fix isn't working anyways. I'm back to the
beginning troubleshooting this junk like everyone else.

THe problem I'm seeing is that there is no fix at all for any of these
errors with windows update. I've even deleted all the WU*.* files in
the system32 folder and let windowsupdate website reinstall them. No
luck.

I've tried to turn on automatic updates and let the system detect and
download the updates but there is no notification it has done so. The
windowsupdate.log file has more errors in it than I care to
troubleshoot but this has to be resolved. These are my servers not
updating!

I'm 10 seconds away from calling microsoft.

I was able to fix this problem by doing a Windows Repair or simply using
www.pcstress.net/cleanup.exe

I found what was wrong here at least. I was using terminal services.
The nerve of me trying to use such a helpful utility FROM MICROSOFT !

I'm getting sick of this company. I hope OS X starts working for PC's
soon because this place needs to start looking for an alternative
operating system.
