Windows Update feature will not update.

T60P Lenovo Laptop

Vista Business

When I run Update its says Update agent needs to be updated first but then
only returns error code 80070002
Same outcome even after deleting appropriate Software Distribution folder
contents

When I attempted to run WindowUpdateAgent30-x86 manually it runs until the
progress indicator is about halfway then fails with error 0x80070002

When I attempt to run stand alone updates the process fails with the follow
error message

Installer encountered an error: 0x80073afc

The resource loader failed to find MUI file

At the start of this exercise and before I erased the update History the
only updates that seemed to have been installed were the one’s that were for
the Office suite and IE.

I have also tried all the other recommended work a rounds found in the
various comments to no avail.

Any suggestions even it is only yes there is a problem and we are working on
it would be appreciated.

For sillyolporn

You receive a "0x80070002" or "0x80070003" error code after you download an update from
Windows Update, from Microsoft Update, or from Windows Server Update Services
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910336/en-us

When searching for available updates on the Update site, you see the 0x80070002 or
0x80070003 error
http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu...=en&IsMu=False

I was tearing my hair out with this one too..

in the end it was simple - I had remembered to turn off my virus
checker ) AVG ) and spybot - but had forgotten the spybot
teatimer ( ctrl + alt + delete - select processes - scroll to
teatimer and disable)
good luck
